I stumbled upon the graphic designer Jean Jullien earlier. His series of work used in his first solo show named "Allo?" fascinated me and brightened up my ever so sunny morning that little bit more. The series reflects human interaction in our modern day society, ever changing by the increased use of social media/smart phones.
The jobless checkout assistant and the self service checkout. The man squashed on the tube surrounded by people engrossed in their technological devices. A personal favorite, is the third one down. Simple in style but striking in message is the silhouette of a singer and the observing audience, all whom have a mobile device in hand filming. I think this is one of the most irritating things about the age of technology. I believe people should enjoy the moment. See it through their own eyes. How can you truly experience what you have come to see if you are busy fiddling around with a device and seeing it through a screen?
"I would never turn on a cell phone at any musical event," wrote Roger Waters, former bassist and vocalist for Pink Floyd. "It would seem to me to show a lack of respect to and care for fellow concert goers, or for that matter the artist. Apart from anything else, how could I possibly truly experience the thing I'd paid to see and hear, if I was fiddling with an iPhone, filming or twittering or chatting or whatever?"
I linked in Jean Jullien's webpage above. Click on the link and have a browse and let me know what you think of his work. I think its really clever yet great to look and represents an interesting change in social interaction that has been happening over the last couple of years.
